Belly aches, colds, and flu – these viruses are unfortunately all too familiar for parents with children in school. With summer winding down and back to school approaching for two of my daughters, I try to get a jump start boosting my immune system before the flood of germs hits home. Since there are no such thing as sick days for parents, it’s essential to be mindful of my health and take steps to ensure my body is in its healthiest state. Below I have shared 5 core ways to help easily boost your immune system for the back to school season.

Daily Supplements

Being on the go each week with work and my three little ones, I attempt to keep a balanced diet; however it’s not always easy. One way I ensure I am getting plant-based nutrients is through a green juice or smoothie each morning packed with whole fruits and vegetables. These drinks are super convenient since they are easily portable and give me a boost of energy to start my morning off right. The other way I make sure I am filling any dietary gaps and receiving all necessary vitamins/minerals is through supplements. I am particularly mindful of supplements during the school season and add in specific vitamins that help support my immune system.†

Nature Made® Vitamin C Chewable Tablets are one of the vitamins I always add into my daily routine.  Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps support the immune system and helps neutralize free radicals in the body.† I love taking Nature Made® Vitamin C Chewable Tablets because not only are they free of artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives, but they taste great! They have a delicious orange flavor and quickly dissolve with chewing. Each chewable tablet is 500mg and should be taken with a meal. Find Nature Made® Vitamin C Chewable Tablets at your local Walmart in the supplement section for a great price.

Prioritize Bedtime and Get Adequate Sleep

We all have nights where sleep does not come easy or it’s hard to settle down after a long day. Staying healthy depends on getting adequate sleep so your body can repair and recharge. It is recommended for adults to receive somewhere between 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Calm your body down about an hour before bed each night with a regular routine that may include dimmed lights, reading a book, and unplugging from technology/screens.

When I am having a difficult time falling asleep, I turn to Nature Made® Melatonin Adult Gummies. These gummies are a super easy way to help support sleep.† Each gummy contains 2.5mg of melatonin and can be taken 1 hour before bedtime. They have a delicious strawberry flavor and are free of synthetic dyes, artificial flavors, and gluten. Another reason I choose Nature Made® brand gummies is because they are tested for purity and potency so you get the added assurance that it has the nutrients you’re seeking. Nature Made® Melatonin Adult Gummies can be found at Walmart in the supplement section too.

Make Time to Relax and De-Stress

It is no secret that stress can run down your body, but did you know it can also weaken your immune system? When your body sustains stress for long periods of time, it can decrease the body’s ability to ward off infection. To help keep your stress level and immune system in check, make time each day to relax. Whether it’s waking up extra early to have a few minutes of quiet meditation or taking time to enjoy a fun hobby, it’s important to remember to not let the stresses of everyday life weaken your overall health.

Exercise Regularly

When you’re active through exercise, your heart pumps strongly allowing for blood/oxygen to effectively circulate throughout the body. This circulation is not only necessary for overall cardiovascular health, but it also helps everything to operate as it should, including the immune system. A simple 30 minute walk each day is a great way to get in daily activity while supporting your health.

Eat The Rainbow

Consuming a balanced diet of primarily whole foods is an excellent way to support your immune system. The body requires vitamins and minerals from a variety of food sources each day to function properly. Choose colorful fruits and vegetables that are rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C. Bright orange, green, and yellow fruits and vegetables are packed with antioxidants and high in beta-carotene which may help to boost the immune system. Nuts and seeds are rich in protein, Vitamin E, omega-3s and zinc. Whole grains oats are another great addition to a healthy diet as they contain selenium, which can help to fight infection.
