As the excitement of summer wears down and the cool weather makes it’s entrance, it’s easy to fall into a bit of a slump. In addition, school, work, and general family life schedules can make it increasingly difficult for health and wellness to remain a priority. In an effort to tackle these barriers head on I am sharing my 6 favorite tips to stay focused on health and wellness.

1. Take a Daily Supplement

A well balanced diet is essential to good health however it may be difficult to consume all necessary vitamins and minerals through diet alone. To ensure I receive all the nutrients my body needs each day for optimal function and to fill any dietary gaps, I take a daily supplement. In addition to filling any dietary gaps, I have personally found that taking a daily supplement has helped to support my immune system and my energy. To find a multivitamin that meets your individual needs first consult with your doctor.

A primary feature I look for in a multivitamin is that it’s specifically formulated for women and our unique nutritional needs. Nature Made® Multi for Her plus Omega-3s Adult Gummies are formulated to provide key nutrients to help support women’s health†. These delicious and convenient chewable gummies are an excellent source of vitamins A, C, D3, and E, as well as B vitamins (biotin, niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12), and important minerals such as chromium and zinc. They also include Folic acid which is particularly important during childbearing years, playing a critical role in the proper development of the baby’s nervous system†. I love that I can take these gummies just once a day and receive the daily nutritional support of a multivitamin, plus 60 mg of heart-healthy EPA and DHA omega-3s from fish oil, per serving.† The vitamins have fruity delicious flavors including lemon, orange and strawberry and are the perfect bite-size. Some more features to love about these gummies are listed below.

  • All natural flavors
  • Colors derived from natural sources
  • Free of synthetic dyes
  • Gluten-Free
  • Gummies are tested for purity and potency so you get the added assurance that it has the nutrients you’re seeking

Nature Made® Multi for Her plus Omega-3s Adult Gummies are a gummy you can trust. Find them at your local Walmart in the A-Z Vitamins & Supplements aisle.

2. Get Adequate Sleep

Sleep is essential to both physical and mental health which is why it is important to get the necessary amount each night. When in sleep mode, your body goes to work in several ways to restore, protect and prepare your body for the upcoming day. Sleep helps to support brain function as it forms new pathways for learning and memory. Repair of the body’s blood vessels is also underway during sleep. When it comes to weight control, sleep can directly affect this as it helps to regulate insulin (the hormone that regulates blood sugar) and the hormones involved in making you feel full or hungry. When sleep deprived, the hormone which makes you feel hungry increases which is one reason why the risk of obesity increases with sleep deprivation.

3. Stay Hydrated with Water

There are an infinite number of reasons why drinking adequate water each day is a substantial factor in health maintenance. Most significantly, remember that the body is made up of more than 50% water and when fully hydrated these fluids are responsible for every body system’s function. Fluids carry nutrients to cells and flush out toxins which in turn helps to give you more energy to tackle your workout. Drinking enough water will also help determine your actual hunger level and stop thirst/dehydration that disguises itself as hunger. Last but not least, one more amazing reason to drink water is that it can help to boost metabolism!

4. Avoid Dieting

There are so many diets around now, I wouldn’t even know where to begin if I was considering this weight loss path. Many of these are diets are hard to stick to and sometimes result in further weight gain if you veer off the plan. Instead of following a strict diet, change your eating habits for the better by incorporating whole foods like fruits and vegetables and avoiding processed foods. If you are craving something sweet reach for fruit, or if you want a salty snack try satisfying almonds. Choosing real foods rich in protein and fiber will help curb cravings and keep you satisfied for longer periods of time than quick carb loaded snacks or foods.

5. Make Exercise Fun!

Exercise shouldn’t be something you dread to do every day. Think about what you love to do and how you can incorporate a workout routine into it. Adapt your exercise activity to your schedule each day so you can get some “me time” in and keep health and fitness a priority. Also, be sure to switch up your workout regularly so that you don’t get bored and unmotivated by doing the same monotonous routine each day. Some activities I love to do on a regular basis are yoga, hiking with my daughters on local trails, and circuit training at home.

6. Stay Positive

It’s so easy to look in the mirror and find all the things that your not satisfied with. Instead focus on all of your positives and use any negative energy as motivation to reach your goals. Recognize your thoughts and feelings as they occur and try to identify their source instead of easily giving up. A positive mind will reach and maintain it’s goals much faster than one that is being obstructed by negative thoughts.
