In the Northeast when summer arrives so does the sunshine and high temperatures. My three girls and I love to maximize our outdoor time each day and enjoy their break to the fullest. When I am on-the-go throughout the season I always bring a few plant-based and natural items to stay fresh and healthy. Below are my top 7 essentials that are always in my bag in the warm summer weather.

1. Tom’s of Maine® Long Lasting Deodorant

My number one must-have product to stay fresh all year long but especially in the summer months, is Tom’s of Maine® Long Lasting Deodorant. I love that this deodorant keeps me fresh and odor free without the use of harsh ingredients. Rather than using chemically based ingredients to fight odor, this deodorant uses the botanical ingredient of hops to inhibit the growth of odor causing bacteria. It’s even been clinically proven to provide 24 hour odor protection — that can’t be beat during the summer months! Besides being an effective and long lasting deodorant, another huge benefit is that it is aluminum-free and contains no artificial colors, flavors, fragrances or preservatives, nor are they tested on animals. Some additional things to love about Tom’s of Maine® is the recyclable packaging (through TerraCycle) and 10% of profits are donated to organizations supporting human and environmental goodness! Ready to make the switch? You can now find Tom’s of Maine® Long Lasting Deodorant at your local Walmart in beautiful scents like Lavender, Fresh Apricot, Lemongrass (Unscented is also available). My current fave is the Fresh Apricot scent but I also love the Unscented variety for certain occasions. Shop Fresh Apricot, Unscented, or any other Tom’s of Maine® Under Arm Protection Products at Walmart now and earn $1 back through Ibotta!

2. Coconut Water

If you are active in the summer heat, sweating is inevitable. Because sweat is primarily composed of salt, water, and electrolytes, it’s extremely important to frequently replenish with fluids  to keep your body in balance. Coconut water is my choice to stay hydrated because it is low in calories, tastes delicious and contains important electrolytes including potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and a small amount of sodium.

3. Sunscreen

Sunscreen is something I always have on hand for myself and my children when we go outdoors. I choose a plant-based sunscreen with high SPF to keep our skin protected. It’s important to remember sunscreen not only protects you from sunburn (short-term reaction to extreme UV exposure) but also to the longterm effects of sun exposure like premature aging skin and skin cancer.

4. Bug Repellant

Where I live in the Northeast is one of the top areas in the country for cases of Lyme’s Disease. We also have mosquitos and other bugs that can be a nuisance when outdoors. For this reason, every time we go outdoors, we apply bug repellant. I choose a naturally based formula that is safe for our skin and eco-friendly.

5. Wipes

I love to take a few wet wipes that I cool in the fridge beforehand along with me when I head out in the summer. I use these to cleanse my face or to simply refresh in warm weather. I also have endless uses for wet wipes with three little ones!

6. Sunglasses

Protecting your eyes from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays is another essential when heading outdoors to maintain your vision. It’s important to choose sunglasses that block out 99-100% of both UVA and UVB radiation. Sunglasses are my favorite easy and fashionable way to protect myself from the sun!

7. Lip Balm

Keeping my lips moisturized is particularly important in the summer months with the increased humidity and heat. I love Tom’s of Maine organic lip balm because it has natural healing and moisturizing ingredients like sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, and beeswax.

Sunglasses, lip balm, and Tom’s of Maine deodorant are must haves in my bag, too! When we’re heading out to the Drive-In, I always throw in bug repellant – the bugs on Cape Cod have been quite persistent this summer! [client]
