With the warmer weather coming, my three girls and I can’t wait to get outside and soak up the sun. We try to spend as much of our day outdoors as we can and love taking walks, going on day trips, playing in the yard, or heading to a park. Having three kids, I like to make sure I travel with some essentials so we are fully prepared for a fun day out. Listed below are a few of my favorite natural and eco-friendly items when we are outdoors enjoying the summer sun.

Natural Sunscreen

The most important thing I always make sure I have on hand during the summer months and beyond is a high SPF broad spectrum organic sunscreen. I look for brands that create their sunscreen with plant-based ingredients that are ideal for sensitive skin and easy to apply. It’s also important to look for sunscreen labeled “broad spectrum” so you can be assured it blocking both UVA and UVB harmful rays. Don’t forget to reapply as directed since a sunburn can put any outdoor fun to a halt.

Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle

Drinking plenty of fluids is vitally important in the summer months since the heat can quickly lead to dehydration and your body overheating. I like to bring along insulated water bottles that keep our water cold throughout our day’s activities and make it easy to replenish fluids on the go. Hydroflask is a great option made from 18/8 food grade steel and BPA + Phthalate free plastic.

Screened Tent

Something I love to have for a day at the beach or just hanging out in the backyard is a screened tent. Mosquitos can be a huge problem at our favorite beach so this is a must have item for us. With mosquitos and bugs at their peak in the summer months, a screened tent allows us to enjoy a bug-free shelter while also taking a break from direct sunlight. I found some great options at MosquitoReviews’ List which also had detailed firsthand reviews to help in the decision making process.

Essential Oils for Bee Stings, Bug Bites, and Scrapes

Playing outside, especially with little ones, means there is always a possibility for bug bites, bee stings or cuts and scrapes. I bring along tea tree and lavender essential oils so I am prepared for any of these possible risks. Tea tree oil is an natural antiseptic and can also help with bee sting pain and lavender essential oil may help soothe any bites or scrapes while also helping to reduce inflammation.

Sunglasses

Keeping your eyes protected is just as important as keeping your skin protected from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Look for sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays to keep your eyes safe. I also try to find brands that are created with reclaimed or recycled materials.

Wet Wipes

Wet wipes are a necessity for all outdoor activity during the summer. We love this brand and take them anytime we leave the house to wipe up any messes along the way. They are also perfect for staying fresh and clean on super hot and sweaty days.
