Yoga has so many amazing benefits for children including enhanced coordination and balance, flexibility, concentration, and mind/body awareness. It also is an incredible way to get your little ones to calm down at the end of the day and prepare for bedtime. By incorporating soothing yoga poses into your child’s bedtime routine, he/she may move easier to a state of peacefulness and stillness before sleep. Below are a list of my favorite bedtime yoga books for kids.
Good Night Yoga: A Pose by Pose Bedtime Story
Good Night Yoga is both a bedtime story and a series of simple poses for following the natural world as it comes to rest at day’s end. Created by the founder of the celebrated Kid Power Yoga program, this bedtime story is so much more than a story. It’s a practice for kids and parents to end the day in a calming, mindful way. Turn the page and stretch like a tree, settle softly like a ladybug, float like a cloud, and you’ll be dreaming soon.
Sleepy Little Yoga: A Toddler’s Sleepy Book of Yoga
This bright and colorful book is filled with soothing and simple yoga poses perfect for helping young children wind down before nap or bedtime. Toddlers will love moving in poses that mimic nighttime animals — from bats and owls to tired bunnies and sleepy bees. This interactive picture book also includes useful information for parents and educators, and photograph demonstrations of each pose.
Say good night to the animals of the world while you learn something new, explore movement, and unwind together before bedtime! Perch like a bald eagle, crouch like a tiger, and curl up like a sloth as you make this a part of your nightly bedtime routine!
Who loves yoga? Everyone from ballerinas to football players to moms and dads. This fun and informative picture book shows kids and adorable piggies in classic yoga poses that are perfect for a before bedtime ritual.
*Check with your child’s doctor before beginning any type of exercise regimen including the above yoga.
