The best way to reduce your environmental impact is to purchase a product used or recycle/donate your own used product. Here are some great ways to buy or sell your everyday items (used) at a discounted price or free (other than Ebay.com or Craigslist.com).
Check Facebook for local town or county groups that offer a place where you can list or buy items. These groups are often name “For Sale, For Free, or Trade in….” I have bought and sold many items this way as it is super convenient (no need to package item for mail, no shipping charges, etc).
Freecycle.org is a free membership, non-profit website where one can give or get various things for free in his/her local community. Their mission is based on reusing and recycling in order to keep useable items out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by local volunteers.
Gazelle.com is a great company where you can send your used electronics and then accept their offer for purchase. Gazelle will pay for shipping and even send you a box for select items. Your gadgets will find a new home and you’ll even get paid! Gazelle calls this reCommerce. Gazelle accepts: Apple iPhone, iPad, Macbook, Mac desktops, Apple TV, Apple Monitors, Smartphones by Blackberry, HTC, LG, Motorola, Nokia, and Samsung.
YouRenew.com is another company where you can send in old electronics such as laptops, Blackberries, and I-Phones to recycle and get paid for going green.
Recyclebank is a website that will give you points for recycling qualifying items redeemable towards gift cards, coupons, or various other freebies.
